Sanitary fittings are easy to overlook on a project budget. They are small, relatively inexpensive, and usually hidden behind walls, under floors, or inside equipment. They are also where many of the most expensive problems begin: leaks that damage finished work, drainage that backs up after handover, or hygienic systems that fail inspection because one component was the wrong grade.
This guide is for contractors, MEP consultants, facility managers and procurement teams who need to buy with confidence. It explains what "sanitary fittings" covers, what to check before ordering, and what separates dependable sanitary fitting suppliers in Saudi Arabia from the ones who cause delays.
The term is used in two overlapping ways, and it helps to be clear which one your project needs.
Building sanitary and drainage fittings are the elbows, tees, couplings, reducers, traps, floor drains, cleanouts and connectors used in water supply, waste and drainage systems for residential, commercial and public buildings. They are typically supplied in PVC/uPVC, and in some applications in cast iron, stainless steel or other metals.
Hygienic (sanitary) process fittings are used where cleanliness is critical: food and beverage processing, pharmaceuticals, dairies and water treatment. They are usually stainless steel with smooth internal surfaces, designed to be cleaned easily and to avoid places where residue can collect.
Many suppliers handle both, but they are different products with different specifications. Say which one you need when you request a quote.
Widely used for drainage, waste and cold-water lines in buildings. They are lightweight, corrosion-resistant and straightforward to install. Check pressure rating, wall thickness and whether the product is intended for pressure or gravity applications, because the two are not interchangeable.
Chosen for hygienic processes, harsh environments and applications where long service life outweighs the higher upfront cost. Grade matters: 304 and 316 behave differently in chlorides, cleaning chemicals and coastal conditions.
Still used in some drainage and fire-rated applications. Confirm the specification with your consultant before substituting.
Whatever the material, ask the supplier for the grade or class in writing. "Equivalent" is not a specification.
Sanitary and plumbing work in the Kingdom sits inside the Saudi Building Code framework, which includes a dedicated sanitary and plumbing code (SBC 701). Products are also expected to meet the relevant SASO technical requirements and, where specified, recognised international standards such as ASTM or ISO. Individual clients and consultants often add their own approved-material lists on top.
Practically, that means:
